I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Top Five Reasons DmC is Better Than Devil May Cry
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
5 mins read Top 5 Reasons Why DmC is Better Than Devil May Cry
has met or exceeded all expectations, and we at VGU.TV can’t get enough of it. Chief of Staff Josh Mobley finished it in two days, and staff writer Nate Hohl zipped through it in one to bring you a timely review. I have been playing the game almost nonstop since I first got my hands on it, and I still don’t want to put it down. I’ve been a fan of the older games, but have never loved them anywhere near as much as I do this one, so what makes it so much more special? Here are five reasons that we came up with:
In the old games, the stories were ridiculous and kind of nonsensical, like when Dante got eaten by a flying whale in
. It didn’t help that the games had a strange continuity, with the chronology being 3, 1, 4, 2. If you actually happened to play the games in that order, you’d realize that the games started great and then gradually became worse as you moved to the next. This game’s campaign is fun, and it’s simple to understand. The best part is that it’s a reboot, and you don’t have to understand the strange story of the older games, though you might miss out on a few funny references.
First off I’d like to say that I am a fan of both versions of the game however I can see the points that people make. Secondly I must say that this is almost all a matter of preference. Thirdly I must address the three classes of people when it comes to reboots: those who love them, those who hate them and those who accept them. It’s a simple fact that there is always an uproar when it comes to reboots so one must be careful about this initial bias.
I feel the only way to properly address this post is point by point, so here’s my break down
1.The story is without a doubt easier to understand. I don’t think anyone here can deny this however we must take into consideration the (I’m adapting this for the situation) part to whole bias. Dmc is only the first part. If we compare Dmc to Devil May Cry (1) then it’s a different story (however I still feel Dmc does a slightly better job).
2.I will also admit the settings of Dmc are a bit more straight forward. I like that its consistent however I love the beauty that goes into the settings of the Devil May Cry franchise, much better than some dirty city. However this all boils down to a matter of preference. Do you want continuity, or beauty?
3.Dante is better…again this is PREFERENCE. Both Dantes are arguably well developed characters. The original Dante is more smooth and cool while the new Dante is raunchy and funny. I love both honestly and I can’t wrap my head around what the huge fuss is.
4.While this is also a matter of preference I cannot deny that there is more done in the presentation of Vergil. In the new game we simply get the see more of his character than before outside of Devil May Cry’s cut scenes. It doesn’t simply introduce him as the bad guy/evil twin but introduces him as a brother. You actually get to feel their bond broken at the end.
5.And lastly the profusely debated combat system….If you went in expecting the traditional lock on system but liked the new free moving system, you will love the new system. However if you expected the traditional and instead got something you couldn’t work with of course you’d hate it. People tend to hate change especially when they are unable to adapt. I find both lock on and no lock on systems just fine. Both have their pros and cons. The original is more concise and can be perfected to a T allowing Dante to take out multiple targets systematically, while the other is looser and runs smoothly and allows Dante to adapt to any unexpected enemy attacks while maintaining the combo streak (where as in the original you lost it). Personally I feel if you combine the old Dante’s systematic attacks with the new Dante’s adaptability…well then he’d just be Sparda.
So... You believe that the new combat system was better because you are mediocre at chaining combos and completing missions competently in the classic games?
That\'s ridiculous. The classic series was meant to be a challenge... Chaining a "Stylish" combo was *supposed* to be difficult, back then it was a reward. Obtaining the legendary "SSS" (achieving an"S" ran in every mission and difficulty) in DMC1 is one of the most rewarding experiences in video gaming, it is overcoming and taming the game.
The new DmC strips that satisfaction with all of the hand holding, although I like the characters and setting more than most old school DMC fans and would actually like it to continue... As a parallel series. Something like Devil May Cry "for dummies" (DmC) and hardcore Devil May Cry (classic). There is no reason why both can\'t continue and, hell, maybe even do a crossover eventually.
first thought seeing the tittle i was thinking theres 5 top reason DmC better, but theres 50 top reason DMC better. But i was wrong, it should be 53 top reason DMC better. Well, theres 3 points you mentioned that actually make DmC worse. 1st setting, i dont hate modern day, but DMC would be matcher with a something like religion-themed place. 2nd better dante? Really? Are you new in DMC? Everyone who has played every dmc games knows that this donte is the worst. Well, the true dante is talkative, not a silenttype, and he is cooler with his style like in DMC 3,4. 3rd better combat system. Well i think you\'d want to say simpler combat sistem, the combat system is bad, i know DMC 4 playing as dante has a super complicated control but that what makes combat system great. New DmC has a simple combat that makes combo just limited while other DMC could do greater combo with complicated control
"If you actually happened to play the games in that order, you’d realize that the games started great and then gradually became worse as you moved to the next."
Because games became easier, which is because Dante was becoming stronger.
was the only one that really mixed it up, having Dante run through an island with a city, train station, and a factory."
DMC 4 had a church, a harbor, mines, a castle, a forest, then another castle/fortress... then all of it again in reverse.
"It puts a spotlight on our society and how people are unaware of what’s happening around them. It’s an intriguing world that is fun to explore every inch of."
This I agree with, but it might have been better adressed in another title?
"This makes Dante half demon, half angel, a race known as Nephilim, which is the only species that can kill the demon lord, Mundus."
Nephilim are actually sons of angels with human women, which just shows that Ninja Theory didn\'t do their research.
"It’s easier to rack up combos now than it’s ever been before."
So DmC is stupidly easy. But in DMC you have to WORK for every point, you have to understand and exploit game mechanics, and you have to develop your reflexes plus be innovative with combos in order to get high Style scores.
"I used to never be able to get an SSS rank in combat or on a mission, even on the simplest of difficulties, but now, as I move up to harder game modes, I can still manage to pull off an SSS every so often while fighting."
1) So you don\'t know how to play DMC, does it mean that game sucks??
2) It is actually easier to get higher Style ranks at higher difficulties in DMC because enemies have more health, allowing you to chain longer and more complex combos. It is actually very hard (nearly impossible, though I think I managed to do it few times) to get SSS rank at lower difficulties as there aren\'t enough enemies, and what enemies there are, they die too quickly.
Nephilim are actually the offspring of angels and demons. Example, the 4 Horsemen were Nephilim, born of angels and demons. Keep in mind this is the original lore. The lore of nephilims is much, much older than the Christian definition, which claims they are the giant offspring of male gods a female humans.
You probably couldn\'t get SSS combos in the other games because THEY WERN\'T HADNED OUT LIKE CANDY! Old Dante has way more depth as a character. And the combat system fell like from the last game we took two steps back and fell in a puddle.
False equivalence isn\'t a counter argument. I feel like he was saying the line was uninspired and honestly I agree with him. While DmC wasn\'t the horror that some people like to claim, it also wasn\'t exactly the second coming of DMC3 either. Personally I disagree with a lot of these, especially the ones about original Dante not having depth. The guy essentially goes out of his way to get himself killed as a sort of a survivor\'s guilt mechanism due to his brother and mother\'s deaths. He also tends to try to genuinely help every woman he meets without any untoward expectations, and that some how makes him less complex than a guy that basically finds meaning in the world through the love of a woman? I don\'t buy it. Still I enjoyed both, but if I get a choice I\'m going with original Dante and his complex psychology running parallel to his brother trying to simplify things while never over coming his fears. That is why I like Dante and Virgil: they are both super damaged and pretty much the same, but one is willing to understand that his pain has to take a backseat to the pain of others while the other really just doesn\'t care.
This is a joke, right? Please tell me this is a troll post.
No it wasn\'t and the writing in DmC totally sucked. Example, when you are at that one boss fight. Boss : Fuck you! Dante : Fuck you Boss : Fuuuck yooouuuuu! So you still think it has better story? And the original DMC series got good with no swearing in.
So your problem is saying fuck you to that huge ugly bag of puke? I laughed at that part it was supossed to be a joke. Cut the shit the writing in the previous dmc games is shit, from the whole "i should have been the light in your heard" utter bullshit to the overdramatic japanesse anime trash in dmc4. Dmc had a better established universe and backstory as well as characters. What do you know about dante? Do you kno why he fights with vergil do you know how he lived or whats his ideas? Do you know of his relationship with his brother? NO becuase dmc games are filled with plotholes, well dmc isnt. What about mundus, what exactly did the original dmc say about mundus? NOTHING The new dmc does a good job of establishing as a characrter and yes dmc has good writing. Why dante says fuck you? Because he is a teenager living in the streets, he represnts the rebel in all of us, he had a hard life, so ofcourse he will act like a punk but he is really not a bad guy, he just comes off like that, just like when he hit that soda can from that fat guy\'s hand, he came off as a douche but he meant well. Also Mundus is a great villian, when he asks dante why he fights, dante says for freedom but in reallity dante is just a rebel that likes going around to cause trouble just like you and me who picked up the game to hit things rather care about something and then mundus says that humans had freedom and they turned it into chaos and humans need to be controlled to thrive. It makes good points and political commentary while the previous dmc are a bunch of anime nonsene, which is ironic since all animes have a point and they are not just overexagurated air dashes with flashes when swords hit monsters. Thats what the old dmc games are, stupid!!
1- ARE YOU BLIND? 2- WERE YOU DRINKING? seriously you\'d think a game lacking the power to LOCK ON to targets would be better than a franchise we grew up with? not only that but DUHTE (I refuse to use the name Dante ergo I mixed DUUUH with the name to show the amount of wit from the character) isn\'t even capable of amounting to the spick of dust that come\'s off a real protagonists boots, that and the fact the game emphasizes on him being nothing but a moronic asshole who just saves the day for no obvious reason, kinda like those US movies where a marine would just save the day for no reason don\'t you think? And did you even bother to play the previous DMC titles or just skip every freaking cutscene?
heres how the future of devil may cry should play out, sort of like call of duty. the original devil may cry devs. make devil may cry 5, which follows the regular story line, same characters in personality and appearance, combat system, the whole nine yards, while the devs over at NT make dmc 2, which continues off of their reboot. just like the call of duty franchise has been doing, theyve been allowing treyarch and infinity ward to make 2 different cod games with completely different stories that dont correlate with one another, but appeal to a different fanbases. its a feasible idea and will appeal to both the newer gen players who like the direction the game is heading in, and older gen players (like myself who prefer the older version of the characters) and prevent the comparison between the two games, which in their own right were both good.
You want pile of borring mediocrity? play dmc 2. You want very few combos and weaposn and awful story and laughable dialogues? Play dmc 1 You wand crappy love story and a awful main character and recycled maps? Play dmc 4 You want a decent game with a nice well established universe play dmc You want a awesome yet hard game, with deadpool as the main character. play dmc3.
You make me laugh, all of those were great games. The 2nd one was good but not as much as the other DMC games. Still better than DmC in my opinion. DmC is great game overall, but it is not Devil May Cry, they should have named it something like that : \'\'Emo Guy slicing up stuff.\'\' It would make me want it more. But it has Devil may cry in it\'s name, which makes me regret this game\'s creation. Dante is not like that! In Sonic\'s reboot he looked like himself with a few things changed a bit. And the woman in DmC, not coming near to any of the women in the old DMC series.
you are the one who should be laughed upon, really that slow paced borring piece of crap with very few weapons incorrectly called dmc 2 was better? Kid you need to fix your brains dante is not emo in any way or form. The new dmc is fine, it had more backstory than all the dmcs combined and a better established universe. I dont know if you are damaged in the head but the women in the dmc series are crap from lady with diffirent eyes to that pointless girl in dmc4, they all suck atleast kat was believable and in the end thats what they were going for not another anime dream boy bullcrap that the previosu dmcs were.
why? Because they changed the crappy story a bit? I dont mind, i like this origins better than eva being human and dante and nero hating its other for no reason. Or is it becasue they changed the combat system? Big deal, free camera pwns. Or because of the generic weapons? Only dmc 3 and to soem extent dmc 4 had good weapons, the other 2 were crap and with very few combos. Or because of 30 fps? I played it on pc with 100 fps Or because of the dialogues and story? because all the previous games had laughable dialogues. Or becasue you dont like the new dante which admitedly feels like a swearing teenager punk of the previous dante, so since he became more mature and focused later on, it kinda fits to the theme if you ask me.
@Dakan45 So you said that Dante and Nero hate each other for no reason...Do you remember when Dante was named \'\'Mysterious Assassin\'\'?
That\'s the answer...But it seems that you don t even know this
I expected read something that would make sense but ended up reading something that sounded like totally biased personal preference, Previous DMC games were great for their time you have to judge them that way where is todays DMC is sub par compared to other hack and slash nowadays , its definitly not a better character and i can debate that all day with far better reasoning, DMC was a great game of its time, the DMC reboot is trash in todays time and hasnt been able to do even 50% of what he original dmc\'s did in terms of impact in gaming as a whole
someone give me a machine gun so i can shoot this guy down!!. dmc 5 has better combat? seriously, you must hate playing hard games, int hat case, you\'d probably hate god of war 1 as well and alot of other games -_- the new story would be agreeable since the old one got messed up. but majority sounds like bullcrapp to me. but then doesnt really matter does it. capcom dropped the lousy junk and went back to their old series with a reboot of the story rather thn reboot of the entire thing
"It’s easier to rack up combos now than it’s ever been before. I used to never be able to get an SSS rank in combat or on a mission, even on the simplest of difficulties, but now, as I move up to harder game modes, I can still manage to pull off an SSS every so often while fighting." WOW, just WOW. What you just said was, the old game was so hard I was never able to get a good score, good thing the combat system in the new one is so dumbed down that even I can get a good score. Seriously...epic fail.
