Yeah, he's a werewolf and I don't actually remember him fainting in Season 1.
But, apparently he has to go through that whole innitation, blood ritual thing ... well, in the books anyway. So, he's still human for now and can faint all he wants.

When Elenas uncle set the vampire device and all the vampires had that pain in the head and then Tyler just dropped

OH!!! Well that was because the device made a sound that only supernatural creatures can here (but everyone else only thought it was just for vampires) and it's like painful to their ears and so, the collapse.
