The radio was blasting, the TV was on high, and the washing machine was going.
“Darry?” You call as you walk into the front door of his house. “What’s going on!” You yell as you see him in the kitchen, making eggs.
“What?” He yells.
You go turn the radio off. “What’s going on?”
“It’s too quiet.” He mumbles.
“Well, you had the radio on full blast and the TV going.” You say.
“Because it’s too quiet.”
You smile up at your boyfriend. “You miss them, don’t you?”
“No…” Darry says.
“Yes you do.” You smile.
“Just a little.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“I miss them a lot. It’s weird not having them around.” He says.
You wrap your arms around his waist. “They’re all grown up now. Soda’s living with his girlfriend, and Ponyboy’s at college. It’s good for them. It’s good for you too.”
“But… I miss them.”
“I know you do. You’re like their daddy. But kids grow up.”
“When we have kids, we’ll never let them leave.”
“Darry, let’s be real.”

“Having a staring contest.” Soda says intensely.
“Umm… Ok?” You say.
“It’s all part of the epic battle of who gets to ask you out.” Steve says.
“What the hell, man!” Soda yelled, and slapped Steve’s arm.
“Owww.” Steve says, looking down to examine his arm.
“Haha yes, I win!” Soda laughs.
“Not fair man!” Steve yells.
They start going after each other.
Oh god.
“Where the hell is she?!?” I storm into the emergency room.
“Excuse me sir,” one of the nurses says, holding me back a little. “Who are you looking for?”
“(Y/N). (Y/N) (Y/L/N). She’s my girlfriend. I got a call. She was in some accident.” I saw, kind of throwing my hands all around.
“I’ll check for you. One minute please. Have a seat” The nurse said. But I saw it in her eyes. Something was wrong. I sat down, head in my hands.
The nurse walks back to talk to a doctor. They keep glancing over at me. Damnit. I wish they’d just tell me what was going on. The nurse nods her head, and the doctor starts walking toward me.
He stands in front of me. “You’re here for Ms. (Y/L/N)?”
“Yes sir.” I manage to say.
I see the sorriness in his eyes, and hear the sadness in his pause.
“I’m afraid she’s not going to make it.”
That was all I needed to hear before standing up.
