Not sure if this as been asked but its been bugging me for ages, and every time i watch the movie. Why do all the main male charactors have long hair in the Goblet of Fire? In all the other movies their hair is short Does anyone know why? Thank you
Well, that was in the time that the main cast were starting to become adults, and the director and stylists were probably wondering how to transform them from "cute" to "sexy". Long hair was in at the time, so they tried it out. Fortunately, someone told them how dumb it looked by OOtP, so they cut it back down again.
Purely speculation on my part, anyone who knows if the cast ever told the public EXACTLY why that was should probably add their own answer.
I think, like roseteaxx, that it was a reflection of the hairstyle then. HP was set in the 90s (not present day) and the "grunge" look (long, shaggy hair) was a fairly popular hairstyle.
I don't know why everyone's hair was cut for OotP. Maybe too much bad reception?

I think the movies are set in 2000s because you can see London Eye and Millennium Bridge which weren't built at the time that HP really occur according to the books
The sixth movie (which is when the MB is shown to be destroyed) is set in the late 90's (1998) which is when the MB was built. Also, the MB WAS destroyed in the books as well. The fourth book (and movie) takes place early to mid 90s, which is when that hairstyle was popular.
construction started at the end of the '98. There were people walking which means that it is opened and it opened in June 2000. And the bridge that Jo mentioned was 10 years old and completely fictional so if it was the 90s in the movie they would probably used a bridge that was already there at that time
Jo mentions the MB and a fictional being destroyed at the beginning of HPB. And, either way, the long hair style was in the fourth book, not the sixth. The fourth book takes place in the mid(ish) 90s --when that hairstyle was popular.
I liked the long hair look some but I think it was too much the focus for 'everyone' to have it.
(Another question, why do all the adult men's names kind of have an 'S' theme? Lucius, Sirius, Albus, Severus...at least all the ones that I like...LOL)

I think it's probably because Jo researched their names. All of them mean something mostly in latin and latin's kinda famous for ending words with us especially male gender words. I hope you understood what I was trying to say
Easy ... the (New) Director thought it would be clear that the 'Long Hair' would symbolize 'teens'...............Crappy really. Don't get me wrong, I liked the long hair, but EVERYONE with long hair? Slightly over the top.
Much Love
