Luna has always been able to make Harry happy, no matter what's gotten him down. When nobody else can cheer him up - not Ron, not Hermione, not Dumbledore, nobody at all - Luna has. When Sirius was killed, it was Luna who brought him out of his depression. When he, Ron and Hermione were fighting off dementors in the Battle of Hogwarts and he could not bring himself to make a patronus, it was Luna who came and gave him the strength and the happiness to produce one. After Harry finally defeated Voldemort, when everyone else wanted to party and celebrate, it was Luna who saw that Harry simply wanted to be alone for a bit, and it was she who brought the distraction so that he could get away from the crowd. When he was outcast in his fifth year and he felt that nobody understood him, Luna did. He always felt that Luna could understand him, and sometimes as if Luna was the only person in the world who could understand him. She was the only person who never, ever judged him, always listened to him, and always understood him.
And it isn't one-way. Before she met Harry, Luna had no real friends. A few people treated her kindly, but were not really friends with her, and most saw her as a freak and outcast her. Harry was the first person to defend her, to be her friend. It was Harry who brought true friends to her, including Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville and Dean. When Harry created Dumbledore's Army, it gave Luna something to look forward to. She was always optimistic and happy, despite being outcast, but Harry brought her so much more happiness.
If there's one thing Harry needs, it's to find happiness despite the dark things he has witnessed. He needs to escape from his reality, just a little bit. And if there's one thing Luna needs, it's to come back down to reality, just a little bit. They can both do that for each other. They fit perfectly together. They are so natural together, and Harry finds he can always talk to Luna about anything, even when he can't talk to anybody else. Luna gains a great happiness out of being with Harry. It's just so perfect <3
Another note: Luna recognized Harry at Bill and Fleur's wedding, even though he had taken Polyjuice Potion to look like someone completely different, simply by recognizing his facial expression. Just food for thought :)
