Harry Potter Question

Neglected characters. Let's talk about the black sheep!

We all know there are characters who are preferred above another one. They usually come up in pairs according to a certain common point. We usually love one of them and hate the other. Think of a pair like that, and tell me

why do you prefer one and hate/dislike the other?

Some help:
I'll list just a few of them, so you'll know what I mean.
Sirius Black-Remus Lupin, Molly Weasley-Bellatrix Lestrange, Dobby-Kreacher, James Potter- Severus Snape, Ginny Weasley- Hermione Granger, Cho Chang-Lavender Brown, Dean Thomas-Victor Krum, Cedric Diggory- Fleur Delcour etc.

Im not quiet sure I understand your question, but I'll cive it a go.
I really don't do that. I cant choose one character over the other because one common point isnt enough to entirely isolate a pair of characters and say you hate one and love the other.
But if I had to choose it would be McGonnagal vs Umbridge.
Both are strict and orderly and lovers of plaid and cats
But Minerva is much more fair and understanding then Umbridge with her hero-worshipping half blood hateing self
So I prefer Minerva

you are not asked to entirely isolate a pair of characters and say you love one and hate the other. I'm saying that you can find pairs like this if you have a close look at pick results or comments. if someone likes Bellatrix s/he will with a moderately good chance dislike Molly, and most of Snape fans hate James Potter. The question is what made you prefer Snape/anybody over James/anybody when they are two completely different characters with only one common point Lily. And that's probably not quite clear... sometimes even I have problems with figuring out what I think.

Percy Weasley annoys me so much, he's so stuck up and disrespectful, even when he doesn't talk and is standing there doing nothing I still want to smack him and he doesn't really have a purpose.I know this isn't a pair but he isn't part of a pair since he leaves but I do love the rest of the Weasley's, they help and love and aren't stuck up twits, I even like Ginny and for some reason people find Ginny annoying, I don't.

I have to say I agree with you. Percy is so annoying, all the reasons you gave.

I think I understand, so characters who are usually portrayed as rivals or as a dynamic duo, so they usually both have the same amount of fans who pretty much dislike the other one, am I right?

So, I can think of one, Hermione and Luna. In OOTP, Luna becomes Harry's friend, but gets in arguments with Hermione, them being pretty much opposites, but sharing a friend. So, I can say I prefer Luna. She goes by her own opinions, and has a little more personality, and also is very amusing to me, being unique and pretty much weird. Hermione goes by the rules and sticks to the books, at least until DH, where she obviously changes.

yeah, that's what I thought about :) And I agree with you, Hermione was a little annoying in OOTP, on the other hand Luna was the sweetest thing

Well, for me I think it'd have to be Percy and Severus.

Both characters made huge mistakes that damaged relationships with the people they cared about: Severus called Lily a 'mudblood' and Percy chose the ministry over his family. Both made choices based on what was good for them: Severus joined the Death Eaters and Percy (again) choosing the Ministry and staying on the Ministry's side even when they were in the wrong. And both worked very hard to fix the mistakes they made: Severus becoming a spy and Percy coming back to fight in the war.

But I prefer Severus much, much more than Percy. I think we see a lot more of the why with Severus. We see the development of him, see how he went from this little boy abused at home to this powerful spy. But, from book one, Percy was always all about himself, making himself look better, getting himself higher up on that "food chain." There really wasn't a whole lot of push to get Percy to that point.

I like Mrs Norris and Filch's special relationship, that Filch always turns up where the cat caught someone managing mischief. It's fun :D As for Arthur and Lucius. I'd perfer Arthur as a father, but Lucius as a husband, shame on me XD
