I learned from him to follow your what your heart says - No matter what your family or friends think. His family was all for blood-purity, and they supported Voldemort. He didn't however. He didn't let them stop him from working against Voldemort. No; He got away from his family and their ways. He didn't allow them to brainwash him. He did with his life what he wanted to, not what his family wanted him to. I think that's the best lesson we learn from Sirius Black.
