I don't know about MANY, BUT I do believe that Sirius wouldn't have or would have been much less likely to die if Dumbledore had shared more with Harry in OOTP. If Dumbledore had AT LEAST filled Harry in on the teeny little fact that Voldemort was able to manipulate and see into his mind, he would have been much less likely to believe the vision that Voldemort sent him, which led him and his friends to the Department of Mysteries.
Also, this is sort of unrelated, XD, but I was also always wondering in in GOF, if Dumbledore KNEW that Voldy was likely going to make a reappearance (Snape & Karkaroff's Dark Marks becoming clearer), then why didn't they try and do anything about it, and just (to quote the movie) "let the evens unfold"????
I think if Dumbledore had been more open and honest with Harry, and told him about the connection in book 5, Harry would have hesitated before running off to the ministry (perhaps he would have told him Sirius was fine, or remembered the mirror, or even used the floo again).
I think if Dumbledore had been upfront about how the Elderwand worked, Severus could have been more prepared.
And, technically, I think if Dumbledore had been more open and honest about what he thought Voldemort was doing (creating something to make him immortal) he could have had a lot more help collecting those memories. That would have saved a lot of people.

Dumbledore couldn't tell Harry about the Elder wand, for fear of power taking over. However, I agree that Sirius' death could have been avoided :(
I didn't say anything about Dumbledore explaining anything about the Elder wand to Harry. I meant if Dumbledore had explained to Severus that Voldemort would think that Severus had it because he killed Dumbledore, than Severus would have had a better chance.
No. I don't believe this. Even if Dumbledore had been more forth coming with the information, that would probably have meant that Voldemort would feel the need to rise up faster, and this may lead to more deaths. So, no, I don't believe that many of the characters wouldn't have died if Dumbledore had been more forth coming.
i absolutely don't think there would have been less death had dumbledore been more forth coming about information if anything there would have been more deaths cause voldemort was a great legilimence and any information about him known by anyone would have made him go on a killing spree. Concerning sirius's death dumledore told snape to teach harry occulumency which was to stop external penetration on the mind and snape told harry indirectly warning him that the dark lord used legilimency to lay bare people's mind plant images and eventually drive them mad knowing this harry still went to the ministry to save sirius even when hermione warned him that it might be a trap from voldemort and concerning using floo powder harry did use it and voldemort being the genius that he was placed kreacher there to lie and confirm his fears and about the two-way mirror harry completely forgot about it because the instant sirius gave him he had no intention of using it so as not to get sirius caught by umbridge or the ministry it had nothing to do with dumbledore giving him information and the major reason harry went there was because i think u will agree with me that harry has a hero complex. About the elder wand and dumbledore telling snape it wouldn't have made a difference except distract snape from what he needed to do b'cos of the fear of death and even if he did have forewarning he could never have escaped voldemort and would still have been killed. I firmly believe dumbledor gave enough information to ensure that voldemort was defeated.
