Angel was very upset after learning that Buffy slept with Xander....

Completely oblivious to the situation, Xander decided to call Angel up and invite him to Buffy's second surprise birthday party.

Okay, fine. Replacement: She felt guilty about lying to Angel and hoped that she sounded convincing and that her guilt wasn't detectable by his super vampire eyes.
