How do you guys make a boring book less boring?

So, we've been reading 'la tulipe noire' at school and it's really boring :( I know it's one of the classics, but it's a bit hard to read. It has long(extremely long) sentences and a quite small font. The book report is due next week and every time I try to read that book, I fail. Any ideas to make it less boring? Like listening to music while reading or something(I tried but that doesn't work for me either)?
