The Alchemyst series by Michael Scott. It's about Nicholas Flamel, who is briefly mentioned by Dumbledore in the first HP book. Flamel is a 500+ year old wizard. I'm still only on the first book, but it is promising.

The Hunger Games series was the best series I have ever read. They have an amazing storyline and leave you on the edge of your seat. It was hard for me to put the books down.

Poke around the fantasy genre. Look at the old fairy tales and the more modern stories. Here, There Be Dragons is really good.

Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, I guess. If you're into sarcasm, than definitely go for the Mortal Instruments.

Eragon. Read it. You will not be dissapointed

Inheritance Cycle, Skulduggery Pleasant Series, Emily the Strange, The Circle Series, and Maximum Ride. If you like animals I would also recommend reading the Guardians of Ga' Hoole series and a spin off of that series–Wolves of the Beyond.
