(NOTE: This was made mainly to hold people off until I made my Top 40 Favorite Television Series, which includes sitcoms, cartoons, and anime, so don't forget to check that out once I'm done with it! Also, there IS mild cussing in this article, so if that bothers you, please leave now.)
Alright, let me just say this now, I LOVE anime. And honestly, I don't even know why. It's just that I can recall so many amazing ones out there and just how much fun I have watching them, and today, IN HONOR OF King John The Third's birthday, we're counting down my favorite anime.
And I haven't seen some really good ones out there, so that's probably why masterpieces like Mirai Nikki and Cowboy Bebop or Code Geass or GOD I REALLY NEED TO SEE MORE ANIME aren't on this list.
And yes, I'm serious, June 6th is King John The Third's Birthday. Not that anyone really cares but....
JUST FORGET IT.
#10. Angel Beats.
Starting off this list is a 13 episode action-packed anime with great animation. And since I'm too lazy to say the story myself, TAKE IT AWAY WIKIPEDIA! ^____^
"Angel Beats! takes place at a high school acting as a limbo for those who have died, where students learn to give up any lingering attachments they still have from life before passing on. Those in the afterlife school can still feel pain as they did when they were alive, as well as dying again, only to awaken later with no injuries.
The story follows the main protagonist Otonashi, a boy who has lost his memories of his life after dying. He meets Yuri, a girl who invites him to join the Afterlife Battlefront, an organization she founded and leads which fights against God for the negative experiences the SSS members went through in life. In the SSS, there is a four-girl band named Girls Dead Monster that acts as a diversion during missions, and an organization called the Guild that mass-produces weapons out of dirt and supplies them to the SSS.
Their only enemy is Angel, a girl who uses her supernatural powers to fight against the SSS. Angel creates her powers with the aid of a computer program called Angel Player. The rest of the afterlife school is populated by a large number of "normal" students and teachers Yuri deems "non-player characters" (NPCs), which are not human but look and act the part."
What, you really thought I was going to write all of that down? SCREW PARAPHRASING!
Anyways, the main reason why this anime makes the list is probably just the concept alone. Yeah, it can get complicated, but it's very original and is executed very nicely.
Also, the animation in this series makes Sailor Moon look like Ed, Edd, And Eddy. Seriously, the anime looks amazing.
Combined with great characters, a pretty damn nice soundtrack, and an ending that'll (SPOILERS) make you cry, it makes #10 on this list.
#9. Azumanga Daioh.
Next on our list that nobody cares about is one of the funniest anime I've seen in years, a high school girl comedy by the name of Azumanga Daioh.
Now, before I even say anything, I want you guys to know that it's VERY EASY to mess up a high school comedy, especially in the anime category. Because chances are, if the show is just mindless slapstick or.... Just makes no goddamn sense whatsoever, it's NOT going to work!
This needs to be mentioned because I've seen a lot of anime with a good amount of potential but mess up one of the main things that makes most anime entertaining, the comedy.
*COUGH COUGH LOVE HINA COUGH COUGH*
And after watching this anime, I almost cried. Not because it was sad, OH HELL NO, but because it was done so nicely!
Every character has their own individually unique personality and the anime makes sure that all the characters get plenty of screen time as well! Seriously, the creators of this anime thought of EVERYTHING before making it.
I won't talk about the characters that much because this isn't a review and if I did, then I'd be here all night. So if you're wondering why I don't mention any, that's why.
My only gripe with this anime is that it's not for everyone. If you tend to like darker anime like Higurashi: When They Cry or action packed anime like Trigun, then chances are, you won't enjoy this show as much. Because honestly, the entire show is just mindless fun.
BUT if you like comedy and are willing to give it a chance, then I say go watch an episode right now!
My favorite character is easily Tomo for those who were wondering. Seriously, she's the most hilarious one on the entire show.
In conclusion, with a nice lineup of characters, great comedy, and overall enjoyment of every episode, Azumanga Daioh makes #9 on this list.
#8. The Ouran High School Host Club.
If there's one thing I DESPISE doing in my articles, it's being cliche. But there's just some cases where I PUT MY HANDS IN THE AIR LIKE I JUST DON'T CARE! :D
(What the hell? o-O)
Basic idea, I didn't want to put an anime on here that EVERYONE likes, but this one is WAY too good to ignore.
It takes place at *Gasp* A HIGH SCHOOL and follows a girl by the name of Haruhi Fujioka accidentally breaking something very important to a group of people in this music club and to pay it off, she has to do what they do and entertain girls for a good chunk of the show.
Now, as far as romantic comedies go, this is easily one of the best ones out there. It has hilarious jokes, great animation, funny side storylines, and an AWESOME theme song that will never ever leave your head.
♫MAYBE YOU'RE MY LOVE! ^__^♫
I think this show's strongest point is the characters, and let me tell you, this show has some of the best.
You have Haruhi being dragged around to whatever the Host Club is doing, Tamaki Suoh being absolutely hilarious the entire show, the twins Hikaru and Kaoru having some awesome character development and jokes along the way, Mitsukuni "Honey" Haninozuka being the cute one of the group, and so much more!
I seriously didn't have a problem with ANY of the characters and I never felt as if the show was annoying. It's always a blast to watch and the anime just keeps getting better.
Also, unlike Azumanga Daioh, the show gets pretty serious at times, especially on the last episode. So it's not just mindless fun, there's something for everyone in this anime.
Unless, again, you like dark anime like Future Diary. But even then I think that everyone will enjoy this, not matter what genre they like the most.
Hell, I even have a friend who LOATHES romantic comedies and he told me this is one of his favorite anime! Need I say more?
And that's why The Ouran High School Host Club makes #8 on this list. It's unique, hysterical, and always makes you laugh when you're feeling down.
#7. Shakugan No Shana.
HOLY GOD I'M NOT WRITING ALL THAT DOWN. You know what to do, Wikipedia! =D
"Shakugan no Shana details an age-old conflict between those who inhabit the Crimson Realm, a parallel universe to the human world. The Crimson Realm is populated by Crimson Denizens who are able to manipulate Power of Existence, a fundamental power within any biological entity and functions as "fuel" for one's existence.
Denizens whose power stands out among their peers are known as Lords of the Crimson Realm, and Lords that are even more powerful are known as Gods. Denizens who do not care about the balance between the Crimson Realm and the human world collect Power of Existence from humans to use for their own purposes.
Some Lords contract with humans to become a Flame Haze, whose duty is to maintain the two worlds' balance by destroying any Denizens disrupting it. Denizens and Flame Haze fight with the use of powerful magic spells called Powers of Unrestrained, which are also known as Unrestricted Spells or Unrestricted Methods. One such spell is the Seal, which creates a space where the Crimson Realm and the human world intermingle and time stops."
That's all I'll say for now. If you want to find out more then watch the anime yourself.
...........
For some reason I can't think of anything to say. Don't you hate it when that happens?
Uh, anyways, this is definitely one of the better takes on action anime I've seen out there. The story is a bit confusing at first, and it took me about 20 episodes to finally remember Alastor's name by heart, but it's all worth it, trust me.
The animation is great, the story is really cool and unique, and this anime also has some of my favorite anime characters of all time.
Hell, the main character is an epic badass who wields a flame sword. Need I say more?
Actually, that's easily one of the best things ever invented now that I think about it. A FLAME SWORD! Just imagine! A F**KING FIRE SWORD! THAT'S EPIC!
Maybe not original, but FLAME SWORDS ARE AWESOME.
It's like taking two of the coolest things EVER, and combining them together!
FIRE! SWORDS! FIRE SWORDS!
FOR THE MOTHER F**KING WIN FIRE SWORDS ZOMG SO EPIC CAN'T HANDLE THE PWNAGENESSSSSSSSS
And that's all I'll say without spoiling anything. The action was amazing, it had a great lineup of characters, great animation, AND F**KING FLAME SWORDS.
#6. Kirby Right Back At Ya.
Comments: STOP IT WITH THE COMEDIES! >.<
Yeah I know, I'm going to be a little excessive with the comedies on this list, but can you really blame me? Comedies are some of the best material you can possibly watch if done correctly, and this anime bloody well shows it.
The story takes place when a legendary star warrior, powerful beings of the universe, crashes into a humble little place called Cappy Town. When the king checks Kirby out, he doesn't like him because-
EW PINK THAT'S A SISSY COLOR COOTIES TAKE IT AWAY!
I don't know. He just doesn't like pink star warriors I guess.
Anyways, the king is in contact with an evil organization known as NightMare Enterprises, or NME for short.
Haha, see what they did there? NME? Enemy? eNeME? HAHAHAHAHA GOOD TIMES! :D
And that's really all I can say about this show. The comedy was always hilarious, I can't get enough of that catchy theme song, the animation is pretty impressive for the time it was made, and had some really good characters along the way!
You just gotta love Waddle Doo and that tiny dagger of his. XD
#5. Clannad/After Story.
Next up is Clannad and Clannad After Story. The first show in the series, Clannad, is your typical high school comedy, but done well. Many of the adventures they have are really entertaining to watch and the ending was great!
The story takes place in Hikarizaka High School where our main characters, Tomoya and Nagisa, along with their friends, go on silly adventures of fun. And that's it. It's done very well, I'll be it a little basic, but executed in a way that works in the anime's favor.
Sadly though, I would say more, but anything else would be major spoilers. Sorry. But after Clannad, we move on to the second show, Clannad After Story, which is basically what happened after the first show.
That's literally what it's called. Clannad After Story. It's like the word wheelchair, IT'S JUST A CHAIR WITH WHEELS. WHAT'S THE POINT. COME UP WITH A BETTER NAME FOR GOD'S SAKE.
But let me tell you, Clannad After Story is THE SADDEST GODDAMN ANIME I'VE EVER SEEN.
SERIOUSLY, THIS SHOW CAN MAKE A GANGSTER CRY. IT'S THAT SAD.
That's all I'm going to say for now. And although this show does end happily ever after, you sure as hell are going to bawl your eyes out in the middle of Clannad After Story.
These two animes are absolutely wonderful, and I recommend you watch them both right now.
#4. Rosario + Vampire
God cursed me with the disadvantage of me watching a lot of comedy animes, didn't he? And seeing as how this entry AND the rest of this list are pretty much comedies.......
WELL F#%K.
Anyways, this anime has the main character, named Tsukune, (Pronounced Skunei, don't ask. It's Japan.) accidently getting sent to a high school where everyone, who looks like normal humans, all have monsters inside of them that they can summon at any time.
Also, the teachers specifically say that any real humans that are caught are going to be killed right on the spot. In other words.....
REST IN PEACE TSUKUNE AONO WE'LL MISS YOU X____X
Along the way he meets a hot pink-haired girl by the name of Moka who, by the end of the first episode when her secret monster form saves him from a monster bully, finds out he's a human and decided to help him.
Also, Moka is said to have the most powerful monster form of them all, being a legendary class monster who can PWN somebody in, let's say, two seconds.
Along the way he meets more characters, each with their own awesome powers and hot bodies. I MEAN, UH, great personalities.
I like this anime for having what a lot of entries on this list already had, great animation, characters, and a cool story, but I think the ONLY reason it's so high on the lst is because this was the first anime I ever watched.
I'll never forget it either. I was about 11-12 years old and I saw this on Netflix. I decided to check it out and it did NOT disappoint me.
My only complaint is that this anime does have a good bit of fanservice in it, so if that bothers you, then this anime isn't for you. I wouldn't say it's as bad as Highschool Of The Dead, but it does happen rather frequently.
Then again, being the perverted 12 year old I was, I didn't really care because it never really got in the way. Seriously, the fanservice is only used for comedy and never actually distracts from an important moment.
And that's all I'll say for now. It's a great anime with a lot of action, and can be pretty damn serious at times as well. Also, since it was my first anime, this show will always hold a special place in my heart.
And that's why Rosario + Vampire is definitely worth checking out.
#3. Kaze No Stigma.
You know the drill, Wikipedia! ;D
"Kazuma Kannagi was the eldest son of the Kannagi family and presumed heir. However, due to his inability to use "Enjutsu", the power to control flames, he was considered to be useless within his family.
Despite his inability to wield fire, his father insisted on him competing for the right to wield "Enraiha", a sword that was wielded by the family heir. Kazuma was soundly defeated by 14-year-old Ayano Kannagi, his second cousin, and banished from the family. Four years later, he returned as a master of "Fūjutsu", the power to control wind, and with a new name: Kazuma Yagami."
There you go. Now, with a story that complicated, it can be a bit hard to first get into, but trust me when I say it's easier to understand then you think.
The anime is kind of random when it introduces a new plot-point or a villain but it's pacing is so well done that you almost forget about it. Also, this is one of the few action series that actually uses break episodes.
What I mean by that is a silly episode where nothing really happens story-wise and is mostly there to calm down the story for an episode or two. And I have to say, WHY DON'T MORE ACTION ANIME DO THIS!?
Seriously, I like a good epic story with fighting, but it wouldn't hurt to add a nice peaceful episode where it's just fun and games every once in a while.
It calms down the story, is good pacing, and makes the anime more enjoyable.
Another reason why I like this anime is just because of the main character. My god, Kazuma is one of the COOLEST characters to ever be in an anime, EVER.
Like my good friend Wikipedia told you, he uses the power of wind, which is already pretty sweet, but his character design is also really well made. He's on my profile page if you're interested, and you can probably find him easily there.
The animation was great, the jokes were really good, the action scenes were intense, and it had-
FIRE SWORDSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! FLAME SWORDS SO EPIC CAN'T HANDLE THE POWER TURN DOWN FOR WHAT FIRE SWORDSSS!!!!! ^________________^
#2. Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple.
This anime takes place in ANOTHERGODDAMNHIGHSCHOOL where a boy named Kenichi is always being picked on. He then meets this awesome girl who is way more overpowered then she should be and shows Kenichi her family, which are all masters of a specific type of fighting.
They train Kenichi for his new opponents, and while he gets stronger, his enemies do as well. And that's the whole story in a nutshell.
It had great animation, funny jokes, epic fighting scenes, and I know I say this a lot, but THIS ANIME HAS SOME OF THE BEST CHARACTERS EVER MADE.
Seriously, although some animes like Azumanga Daioh and The Ouran High School Host Club might not make a Top 10 Anime Characters list for me, EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW WOULD GET A GUARANTEED SPOT IN THE TOP 5.
I really like Kenichi's creepy yet funny friend, I like a lot of the members of Ragnarok, I like the masters for being so powerful yet so funny, and everything in this show just screams out-
POLISH! ^_______________^
Also, I swear I watched this anime 3 TIMES! AND IT'S 50 EPISODES LONG! That's EASILY the most times I've watched the same anime, and I NEVER got bored.
Lastly, one thing I really like about the show is how ridiculously overpowered the masters are, and yet they don't even help Kenichi in his fights.
They make him fight his own battles and grow on his own. And heck, I think if the masters fought even the most powerful villains in the show, they'd win easily.
It's really funny knowing how the masters can easily beat anyone in the world and it also makes them look even more epic, and that's all I'll say for this anime.
It's one of my favorite animes of all time, and it's DEFINITELY worth checking out. Seriously go watch episode 1 right now. You won't regret it.
#1. School Rumble.
THIS ANIME IS FLAWLESS, SIMPLY FLAWLESS. IT IS HANDS DOWN THE FUNNIEST AND MOST ENTERTAINING ANIME YOU'LL EVER SEE IN YOUR LIFE.
AZUMANGA DAIOH AIN'T GOT NOTHING ON THIS SHOW, IT'S LITERALLY A MASTERPIECE.
Seriously, this isn't just my favorite anime, it's my favorite SHOW. OUT OF ALL THE CARTOONS, THE SITCOMS, THE ANIME, NOTHING TOPS THIS SHOW. NOTHING.
I don't care if I watched Cowboy Bebop, Future Diary, or Code Geass, NOTHING BEATS THIS.
Now let's finally stop fanboying like a 2-year old and get to the story.
Wikipedia, get over here!
Wikipedia: NO! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!
Me: I GOT A FLAME SWORD! >:D
Wikipedia: FINE! GODDAMNIT JARED!
Wikipedia: School Rumble is a romantic shōnen comedy revolving around the daily lives of the students of Class 2-C at the fictional Yagami High School, along with their friends and families.
The main female protagonist is Tenma Tsukamoto, an unremarkable second-year high school student who secretly admires her eccentric, enigmatic, nice-guy classmate, Oji Karasuma.
Tenma struggles to confess her feelings to Oji. He remains oblivious to her interest, instead seeking fulfillment by indulging in curry. The main male protagonist, delinquent Kenji Harima, similarly yearns for Tenma, attending school solely to be near her.
Like Tenma, Harima has difficulty declaring his love, and whenever he summons the courage to do so, circumstances conspire against him.
Wikipedia: I hate you Jared.
Anyways, the payoff was definitely worth it, as this is the funniest damn show I've ever seen in my life.
Flaws? Well, uh..... There...... Uh...... Um...
I don't like how that pillow in episode three looked at me? I DON'T KNOW, THIS ANIME HAS NO FLAWS.
Seriously, everything is perfect. The pacing of the show is great, the jokes always hit bullseye, the animation is great, and the characters? F**KING PHENOMENAL!
My god, Kenji Harima is the funniest character you'll ever see in ANY show. In fact, if I made a Top 10 Characters In Media list, he'd make #1 instantly!
Seriously, this is as good as shows get, and no matter what I watch in the future, my opinion for this show will never change.
THE ONLY FLAW is there's no flame swords, that's a crime all by itself. But honestly, who even cares about that?
This anime doesn't just have no flaws, it downright PERFECT.
Not just the perfect anime, the perfect show. Period.
This is Jared Potts signing out, and I hope you enjoyed my list. Don't forget to leave a comment below on your favorite animes, and stay tuned for my Top 40 Favorite T.V. Shows! Although if you read this list, you already know what #1 will be.
Thanks for reading! I really appreciate it. :)
(Tell me if you find any spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors in this article. Also, yes, I have seen Soul Eater, Death Note, and a lot of great anime, but they just didn't make the list in the end. Sorry!)
Alright, let me just say this now, I LOVE anime. And honestly, I don't even know why. It's just that I can recall so many amazing ones out there and just how much fun I have watching them, and today, IN HONOR OF King John The Third's birthday, we're counting down my favorite anime.

(Tell me if you find any spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors in this article. Also, yes, I have seen Soul Eater, Death Note, and a lot of great anime, but they just didn't make the list in the end. Sorry!)
