If I can count the HP series as 6 I'll add - Truly Madly Deeply, Sense and Sensibility, Galaxy Quest and Snowcake. I haven't seen Bottle shock yet so don't have any thoughts on that one.

If you count HP series as one, which movies would you add? ;)

Ok I'll add Mesmer, love actually, Sweeney Todd, and Robin Hood - not for the movie itself - can't stand Kevin Costner - just for him in it.

Ok, let's try...

I'm absolutely sure about my top three:

Harry Potter (all of them)
Sweeney Todd
Snow Cake

After that it gets much more difficult. I choose those seven now, but I'm not sure:

Robin Hood, Something the Lord Made, Dark Harbor, Sense and Sensibility, Blow Dry, Rasputin, Love Actually

I haven't seen Close My Eyes yet, by the way, so I couldn't take it into consideration.

Though I'd rather think in terms of characters he played. He has the knack of making lovable/funny/sexy the evil characters he played. He excels at playing ambiguous characters too - that's where I love him most. At the same time, he's very good at playing gentle/sweet/funny characters. A very versatile actor, so complete in his art. Here is my list :

* Closet Land - for the issues and his great interpretation, he plays with his voice like an opera singer
* All the Harry Potter movies - OK, he was made for the part of the ever-ambiguous Severus Snape, and his voice in this part... *sigh*
* Sweeney Todd - evil Judge Turpin *silly Johanna*
* Mesmer - the movie features one of the most sensual and tender kiss ever filmed
* Rasputin : only him could play that part, it was completely crazy, he is possessed in it
* Sense and Sensibility - showing a sweet side of his acting abilities
* Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves : sexy and funny Sheriff of Nottingham. He stole the show to a paling K. Costner in comparison
* Die Hard : one of the best heavies ever. And sexy too !
* Love Actually : delightful movie, he plays a man married but tempted by an affair...
* Cold Harbor : ambiguous part here too. And when he dived in that lake... naked... *sigh*

I haven't seen the others (not yet !) but I'm sure there are other gems in his filmography. And I hope there'll be others in the future too, just for our pleasure !

Well, seeing as I HATE Closet Land (Alan actually asked his fans not to watch it as he was so unhappy with the final result), Dogma (he was brilliant but what a heap of sh*t!) & the atrocious Nobel Son (why an actor of such a high calibre lowered himself to such a role I'll never know), I'll have to go with:-

1. Snow Cake (Love Alex!)
2. Die Hard (Sexiest, most sophisticated 'villain' ever!)
3. Sense & Sensibility (I want to marry Col. B!)
4. Truly, Madly, Deeply (Darling Jamie!)
5. Mesmer (Crap film, but he's gorgeous!)
6. An Awfully Big Adventure (So sad!)
7. Rasputin (Awesome performance!)
8. Blow Dry (Plays such droll, dour characters so well!)
9. John Gissing (Not brilliant as a film but great comedic role again!)
10.Love Actually (It was all that bitch's fault - she led him on!!)

Just wanted to say that 'Something The Lord Made', 'Close My Eyes', 'Dark Harbor' (terrible accent!) and 'The January Man' (cute performance) are all worth checking out ... but don't bother with 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer', 'Judas Kiss' or 'Michael Collins'. (Although AR is actually good in the latter - as Eamon De Valera - the over-all film is rather long-winded and boring.) His voice talents are good on 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Help! I'm a Fish' of course, and 'Galaxy Quest' is an excellent film in itself and a great spoof of the 'Star Trek' genre, whilst not AR's most 'glamorous' role! 'Bottle Shock' is OK (love hearing AR speak French!); 'Quigley Downunder' is rather non-descript IMHO (and only really good if you're a Tom Sellick fan as AR isn't really in it that much) and creepy Judge Turpin in 'Sweeney Todd' freaks me out too much, as does The Sheriff of Nottingham in 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' if I'm being honest! (Though no one can deny that AR's performance in ‘Robin Hood’ was next to brilliant - if somewhat OTT – and no doubt saved the film!) And I've yet to see 'The Winter Guest' a second time to judge if AR's film directing debut improves on my first viewing, when I found it rather too dour & boring I'm afraid!

I haven't listed the Harry Potters in my top ten because, it goes without saying, that, as a true 'Rickmaniac', I simply LOVE Severus Snape and so (weirdly maybe) I kind of feel his role in this fabulous franchaise is a slightly separate thing somehow - but, in a way, I guess all of the HP films should be a joint no. 1! Yes, without looking like I’m showing off, I've seen all of AR’s films (except 'Bob Roberts'!!) I've also seen and love nearly all of his TV performances, with his role in the BBC play 'Benefactors' being top of my list - AR at his most snarky & sexy I reckon! And he was of course so incredibly slimy as Obidiah Slope in 'The Barchester Chronicles' that no true fan should miss out on such a treat! 'Busted!' wasn't that good (was it just me, or was his acting so 'wooden' you could have knocked him over?!) and roles in 'Girls on Top', 'Shelley' and 'Therese Raquin' not particularly memorable. But do check out his solo performance in 'Revolutionary Witness: The Preacher' if you ever get chance - it's breathtaking. And he's also gorgeous in 'Fallen Angels: Murder Obliquely' which I'm still struggling to find a good, clean copy of! Have I missed any out? Probably!!

haha, I will agree that sometimes his choices are questionable, there are a few that I barely managed to watch and will probably never touch again, though they are still sitting on my shelf among other DVDs, because even though the movie is crap, HE is always fantastic :) (I could do without the accent in Judas Kiss though :P)

1) Die Hard (first film I saw him in. It was love at first sight).
2) Rasputin (brilliant acting, not to mention a great kissing scene).
3) Sense And Sensibility (who doesn't love Col. Brandon?)
4) Snow Cake (both sad and funny)
5) Closet Land ( he and Madeleine Stowe were great in this two character tour de force)
6) Truly Madly Deeply (first time I saw him play a nice guy)
7) Robin Hood (very funny, over the top performance. Upstages Kevin Costner imho.)
8) Love Actually ( Harry's a bit of a cad but loved watching Alan and Emma together again).
9) An Awfully Big Adventure ( What a sad, surprising ending)
10) The Harry Potter series (What more can I say? I loved the way he played Snape).

Wish this were a top 15 or 20. I would also have included the following:
11) Dark Harbor (talk about surprise endings, not to mention the strip scene!)
12) Dogma (in which he plays THE VOICE OF GOD. Gee, now that's not very surprising)
13) Something The Lord Made (very well acted by all and informative)
14) Mesmer (OMG. He looks so hot in those flowing robes and I know exactly how those moaning women felt)
15)Nobel Son (he was a real cad in this one.)
16) John Gissing (amusing - Can you do the Alan dance and slide?)
17)Michael Collins (Alan and Liam - yay!)
18) Bottle Shock (Not my favorite, but it has it's moments)
19) Close My Eyes (his wife was nuts to choose her own brother over him) Also liked just looking at him in the following: Quigley Down Under (ride 'em cowboy!), Blow Dry ( a comment comes to mind - Oops. I'd better keep that one to myself!), and January Man (hated the movie, loved Ed). Well, that's all folks.
